The Cheapest Way to Run a Freelance Design Agency in 2026 — Full Software Stack Under PKR 8,000/Month

The Cheapest Way to Run a Freelance Design Agency in 2026 — Full Software Stack Under PKR 8,000/Month

Built a complete agency software stack — design, video, AI, project management, accounting — for under PKR 8k/month. Here's the line-item breakdown.

Running a freelance design agency in Pakistan in 2026 doesn't mean buying every Adobe and SaaS subscription on the market. I run a 3-person remote design shop in Karachi serving international clients, and our entire monthly software bill is PKR 7,800. Here's the exact line-item breakdown — what's worth paying for, what's free, and where I cut.

The full stack — PKR 7,800/month total

ToolUse caseMonthly PKR
Adobe Creative Cloud (All Apps, reseller)Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere3,500
Canva Pro (reseller)Social media, quick mockups, brand templates700
CapCut Pro (reseller)Short-form video, reels, TikTok-style edits400
ChatGPT Plus (reseller)Copywriting, brief expansion, email replies1,500
FigmaUI/UX, client wireframing0 (free tier)
Grammarly Premium (reseller)Client-facing copy1,000
Notion (free)Project management, client wikis0
Google Workspace (Business Starter)Email, Drive, Calendar700
TOTAL7,800

For comparison, the same stack at direct international pricing would be roughly PKR 35,000/month. The reseller routing on Adobe, Canva, ChatGPT, and Grammarly is where the bulk of the saving is.

Why this combo and not Adobe + nothing else

The three reasons we don't run Adobe-only:

1. Canva Pro for social. 70% of our social-media client work doesn't need Photoshop. Canva templates ship faster, look professional enough, and clients can edit them without buying Adobe themselves. We use Adobe only when the brand needs a real PSD or print layout.

2. CapCut for short video. For Reels, TikTok, and short YouTube clips, CapCut Pro is faster than Premiere. We use Premiere only for longer-form (3+ minute) edits and motion graphics.

3. ChatGPT + Grammarly for copy. A small design agency that writes its own copy looks more professional. ChatGPT for first drafts, Grammarly for polish. Roughly 1 hour saved per project.

Where I tried to save and failed

  • Notion vs Trello vs ClickUp: Notion's free tier is enough. ClickUp's paid features (time tracking, automations) are nice but not worth the spend at our size.
  • Email: Gmail free vs Workspace: I tried free Gmail for 6 months. The "@gmail.com" address actively cost us pitches. Workspace's Business Starter at PKR 700/month with @yourdomain.pk emails is non-negotiable for client-facing work.
  • Affinity Suite vs Adobe: I switched a junior designer to Affinity for 2 months. The file-format incompatibility with international clients caused 3 deliverable rejections. Switched back.

What I genuinely don't pay for (and you shouldn't either at this scale)

  • Stock photo subscriptions. Unsplash + Pexels + Freepik free tier cover 90% of need. Paid Freepik only matters once you're shipping 50+ designs/month.
  • Stock music subscriptions. YouTube Audio Library covers most short-form needs.
  • Mockup generators (e.g. Placeit, Smartmockups). Make one good mockup template in PS/Figma and reuse it.
  • Time-tracking SaaS. Toggl Free is fine.
  • Invoicing tools (e.g. Bonsai, Wave). I use a Notion template + JazzCash receipts. Total cost: PKR 0.

Scaling up — what I'd add at PKR 15k/month

If revenue justified PKR 15k/month software spend, I'd add:

  • Freepik Premium at PKR ~600/month — unlimited assets is a real time saver
  • Loom paid tier — async client communication
  • Frame.io for video review — eliminates the "did you see my changes?" loop
  • One project-management upgrade (ClickUp Unlimited or Notion AI)

None of these are essential at PKR 8k/month, but each pays back fast at higher revenue.

The "is this legal" question

Reseller-sourced subscriptions are legitimate accounts purchased upstream and resold to you. The deliverables you produce (PSDs, AI files, video exports) are 100% normal client deliverables. There's no client-side artifact that says "made on a reseller account." For commercial-use rights, the upstream platform's commercial license applies — Canva Pro, Adobe CC, etc. all include commercial use.

Bottom line

You don't need to pay USD pricing to run a professional design agency in Pakistan. The combination above ships client work that competes with US-based agencies, billed at PKR 7,800/month. Browse design tools and AI tools, or message on WhatsApp for a stack review based on your client mix.

Frequently asked questions

Can I really run a Pakistani design agency on PKR 8,000/month software?
Yes — at solo or 2–3 person scale. Above 5 people you start needing paid PM tools and seat-based licenses for collaboration features. The PKR 8k stack is for freelance and micro-agency.
Do international clients care if I use reseller subscriptions?
No — they care about deliverable quality and turnaround. The PSD or MP4 you ship doesn't carry any "reseller account" metadata.
Why pay for Google Workspace when Gmail is free?
A @yourdomain.pk email looks professional and can't be filtered to spam as easily as @gmail.com. At PKR 700/month it's the cheapest credibility upgrade you can buy.
Should I add Figma Pro?
Only if you do heavy UI/UX work. The free tier is generous (3 projects, unlimited collaborators on each). Pro mostly adds team libraries and design systems, which solo freelancers don't need.

Full Adobe CC is PKR 17,000+/month direct. Single-app is PKR 5,000+. The "regional pricing" trick has caveats. Here's the math that actually matters for Pakistani designers.
